Virtually every recommendation about how to handle the adrenaline surge before a speaking event, presentation, job interview, and more is focused on how to overcome what’s happening in your body — and that’s completely wrong. What’s happening inside is natural, not problematic. It’s your interpretation of those signals that leads you astray, and this mini-course helps you understand this better than some quick advice to “Just imagine it as being excited...”
No. The insights you’ll gain from this course are foundational, not just something you might try. There’s no gimmick here. After going through this course, you'll look at every speaking event in a new way, and bring a more natural, integrated, and confident approach to what you do.
No. There *are* some odd suggestions out there about how to “overcome” what’s happening in your body, but this is not one of them. Once you understand how and why your body is acting the way it is, you may find that you’ll take some actions to help you channel the performance energy you’re feeling, but you definitely don't have to do something weird, like power poses, complex breathing patterns, or endless mantras. My go-to action is to move a bit, but otherwise just be with the adrenaline surge, knowing it’s there to help me, not mess me up.
It stops the battle between what your body is doing and how you’re fighting its natural actions. Then your mind and your body can work in harmony in this very important task, rather than being at odds, and where you feel you have to do *something* because your body seems to be rebelling. As well, becoming comfortable and integrated in speaking situations will help you in every other area of your life where there seems to be a disconnect between your body and your mind.
